Maya Alam is an architect, designer, and artist of Indian and German descent. She earned a Dipl.-Ing. degree from the Peter Behrens School of Architecture in Düsseldorf, Germany, and a Master of Architecture degree with honors from the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles.

Prior to her appointment at the Bergische University Wuppertal, she worked internationally in renowned architectural firms in the USA, China, Switzerland, and Italy. In addition, she taught bachelor's and master's level studios and seminars at several American universities, including the University of Pennsylvania, Yale University, Syracuse University, and the Southern California Institute of Architecture.

Alam was awarded the AIA Henry Adams Certificate and a Selected Best Thesis Award at SCI-Arc. She was the inaugural recipient of the 2016/17 Boghosian Fellowship, the 2022 Decolonial Berlin Architecture Residency, and the 2022-24 Schloss Solitude Fellowship, and is a founding partner of the collaboration A/P Practice along with Daniele Profeta. Most recently, her work has been exhibited internationally, including at the Technik Museum Berlin, in the public space of downtown Berlin as part of the Decoloniale Festival 2022, at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington, DC, at the Anchorage Museum in Alaska, and at the A+D Museum in Los Angeles.
